5 Sources of Workout Inspiration
Since I am a personal trainer, I am always ready and motivated for my workouts. NOT!!!
As much as I wish that was true, I am just like everyone else. Some days I feel amped and other days I just want a cookie and a nap. We all experience these ebbs and flows in our motivation levels, so how do we maintain the consistency we know we need to reach our goals? There isn’t some proven formula for staying on track with your health and fitness routine, but here are some solid tricks to try out next time you need that extra inspiration boost.
1. Team Up – We all hate letting people down, probably even more than we hate dragging ourselves out of bed some days. So, make plans with a workout buddy and hold each other accountable. Studies show that people are more likely to stick to their commitments and push themselves harder when they work out with others.
2. Seek Inspiration – social media has always been a great source of inspiration for me. I follow people who focus their posts on helping others become better versions of themselves. I find when I scroll through my feed, I feel re-energized and ready to take on my day (and my workouts!) Check out my favorite inspiring accounts: @robinnyc @thetiabeestokes @plantbasedrd
3. Dress the Part – I don’t know about you, but when I have a killer outfit on, I feel more confident and more excited about my workouts. Treat yourself to new apparel and accessories that reinvigorate your workout routine and give you that added pep in your step!
4. Stay Flexible – Somedays I have every intention of working a certain part of my body, and then my body has other plans. It’s good to have a routine that incorporates working various parts of your body in different ways throughout your week but don’t be too rigid in your planning. If Tuesday is supposed to be a leg day, and you’re just not feeling up to that, switch it out with one of your other workouts that better fits your mood and schedule that day. Listen to your body and know that if you move, you are getting stronger!
5. Find Support – Whether it’s a program, a gym, a personal trainer, or even just your dog, you need support to progress through your health and fitness journey. Especially on the hard days, you need something to keep you going, other than your own free will. I strongly encourage everyone to spend time thinking about what their support is, and if you don’t have enough go out and get some. Find someone or something, that is going to hold you accountable and consistent!
