Overcoming the Mom Hustle: 3 Common Wellness Barriers and How to Break Through

Hey there, mamas!

I'm excited to share insights from my recent wellness journey as a mom. I've learned a lot about the challenges of prioritizing health and fitness while juggling the demands of motherhood.

As a personal trainer for 15 years, I've guided many mothers on their fitness journeys. Becoming a mom myself deepened my understanding of the unique challenges we face. While "just do it" might sound simple, motherhood often requires a bit more planning.

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Growth happens when we push our limits. To make lasting changes, we need to get a little uncomfortable. So, ask yourself: "Why am I doing this? What are my goals? Who am I doing this for?"

This blog post is about creating a supportive community for moms like us. We'll share our experiences, offer encouragement, and learn from each other. Together, we can navigate the challenges of living a healthy lifestyle.

Three Common Barriers for Moms:

  1. Lack of Time:

    • Solution: Schedule workouts like important appointments. Short bursts of 20-30 minutes are just as effective as longer sessions.

    • Involve your kids: Go for family walks, bike rides, or play active games.

    • Combine workouts with family time: Use your baby as a weight, invite them to join your exercises (age-appropriately, of course!).

  2. Fatigue and Lack of Energy:

    • Solution: Prioritize sleep! Establish a bedtime routine, reduce screen time before bed, and accept help when offered.

    • Start with low-intensity exercises: Walking, stretching, and gentle yoga can boost energy levels.

  3. Childcare Responsibilities:

    • Solution: Utilize naptime, early mornings, or evenings.

    • Involve your kids: Let them watch you exercise, count your reps, and cheer you on.

    • Swap childcare duties with other moms to create workout windows.

Finding Your "Why"

What are your "whys"? Why do you want to improve your health?

  • Write down your goals.

  • Break down your goals into smaller, achievable steps.

  • Determine how many days a week you can realistically exercise.

Listen to Your Body

Don't push yourself too hard, especially when starting. Soreness isn't always a good indicator of a successful workout. Listen to your body and adjust your intensity as needed.

Start Small and Be Consistent

You don't have to go all-in from the beginning. Start with small, manageable steps and gradually increase the intensity as you progress.

Remember, your health matters. Let's prioritize self-care and create a healthier, happier life for ourselves and our families.
